Monbat is a Bulgarian producer of lead-acid batteries, operating in this business since the late-1950s. It was privatised in 1999, and had its IPO on the Bulgarian Stock Exchange seven years later. At the same time, to strengthen the vertical integration of its business, Monbat developed lead recycling facilities and, three years ago, it entered the lithium-ion batteries business. The company has an export-orientated business model, and its primary foreign markets are EU countries; while, in recent years, it has also expanded to the African continent.
